The cabinet is the art. Here are forms a maker might build — each with a
suggested control nobody's played yet. None are built but The Algorithm;
these are open invitations.
Blooms
A cluster of waist-high steel flowers whose solar-panel
leaves and motor-driven petals slowly open and close, each bloom
cupping a small circular screen at its heart. Players lean in to peer
into the blossoms while the whole patch breathes around them.
Control — light & shadow: a hand
or body passing over a leaf's solar cell is the input; cover and
uncover petals to coax the blooms open, pollinating the patch by hand.
Confession booth
A single-occupant booth hung with heavy velvet curtains and
a carved grille, lit low and kept private. You speak; the presence
behind the screen listens, judges, and answers back.
Control — voice: speech is the only
input — volume, tone, and a few keywords — begun by kneeling on a
foot-pedal rail.
Antique car
Built into the great curved hood and chrome trim of a
salvaged 1950s car — headlights for eyes, the real grille for a mouth.
Players sit on the bumper and drive a machine that goes nowhere.
Control — real steering wheel & horn:
the column-mounted wheel steers and a chrome horn button fires.
Pyramid
A mirror-clad pyramid you walk around, each of its four
faces a screen onto one shared world. Players on different sides must
cooperate or compete without ever seeing each other.
Control — a capacitive touch-rail
around the base: slide a hand along your edge to move your part of the
one game.
Dollar bill
A giant, ornately engraved banknote — the portrait's eyes
tracking you, the seal aglow. It plays on money, attention and worth
while you feed it.
Control — token slot & pull-lever:
feed the (always-returned) token and yank a one-armed-bandit arm.
Dollhouse
A doll-sized house, open at the front like a stage, each
tiny room a lit diorama with its own small screen behind the windows.
Players rearrange the household and watch the little lives respond.
Control — tagged furniture: pick up
and place miniature chairs, beds and lamps; the house reads where each
piece lands.
Game show
A lit contestant podium with a big screen, a marquee of
bulbs and a great brass buzzer. Walk up, get quizzed, and beat the
clock for whatever crowd has gathered.
Control — buzzer & lock-in dial:
spin a rotary dial to choose, then slam the buzzer to answer.
Giant robot hands
A pair of oversized chrome robot hands on articulated arms
— the Fingerdance lineage — reaching out to meet the player's own. They
mirror, grip, play rock-paper-scissors and high-five.
Control — your own hands, read by a
depth camera: gesture and the hands gesture back. No buttons.
